Bringing home the baby

We have a few mares we keep down at Morgan's folks'. This year only one mare had a colt. We made a quick trip down to wean him and bring him home. You can see his Mama is going to have another colt....yay!!

They were pretty close to the pens and the gather was going so well. About the time I thought it was too good to be true, the gray mare saw a chance in a brushy spot and ducked off, taking all three of them toward the back as fast as they could go. We had a little pasture horse race, but Shane and his short legged but big hearted horse turned them just in time.

After we tied the horses up, I looked back and had to take this for Hannah. It looked like a day out of the past, horses tied to that same pen, only it was Morgan, Hannah, Bob, Bill, Tooter, Frank, etc. who were milling around getting the groundwork done while the horses were tied. Except none of the horses in this picture are tall enough to have passed for Bill's, huh Hannah?! It was a little blast from the past to be there. Made us feel like it must be time to gather bulls out of the trap and put them out. :)

We loaded them all on the trailer

Then tried to get the mares off.

When Ivey was really little and something went wrong, she was very unconcerned as Morgan started to fix it. She said, "Cowboys always have tricks." Here's Morgan doing a "trick". :)

Only one mare came off though. Mama didn't want to leave the baby. Another minute or two and another trick and she was off the trailer too. She is sweet, gentle, and didn't totally wig out when she was away from the baby.....like I would have if I someone was taking my child. :) Like the gray mare did last year.

Mission accomplished.

Mares back out to pasture....

Reload the saddle horses....get that gate, Shane. I'm busy taking pictures with Daddy's phone. :)
One last picture just because I love this spot.

Back to the house where Frank was waiting for a report. Morgan accidentally took this as he handed his phone to Frank to take a pic of us. I like it though.

The horses crack me up. This one it is like, "Let's all look tired."

"Now let's all look at the camera, but not all put our ears up like we should for a picture."

"Let's all look to the left when he takes the picture!" At any rate, we were all smiling because we got the colt, we love how he looks, and it was also a really fun afternoon.

Sadie took a few picture this morning. He's here now and doing great. I bet he's not impressed with the muddy pens though.

Cute!

Content.

Eating fine....
Just wondering where his Mama is.

What a good story---and a happy ending!
It was great seeing y'all breezing in with your intent of getting it all done before dark; then a little time with you before you took off for home.
All this happening in the pasture out there around us, and we never see them!

That's Memop--I have to figure out how to get this new computer to stop changing my words!

SUPER story and pics!! I think your horses are hilarious. Well, your captions about the horses are hilarious anyway! :)
Love the "cowboys always have tricks". I tell Dad & Justin that if just ONCE they would have to walk away from a problem and say "I can't figure out how to.....", we wouldn't hold such a high standard of expectation that they can do/fix/be anything!! Job well done, Morg! LOVE the picture of "mission accomplished".
Cute little colt, keep us posted!
