Christmas break

While we are taking a break from school, there's no break from the chores this time of year. All of the kids have 4H animals and it is also the time of year they get the most chances to help Morgan. Notice all the smiles about both things!
Shane is getting two heifers ready for the county show.....one is named Bessie (for Bessie the Heifer, Queen of all the Cows) because she is so sweet. The other is Marie (as in Bobby Bare's Marie LaVeau. Uncle Monte used to sing it and this heifer's personality reminds us of her. Not such a sweet one!)

Shane and Ivey each have a pig again this year. Ivey named hers Albert Einstein. Shane named his Winston. They both have fun personalities and did you know that pigs love marshmallows? :)
I'm not sure if they are walking the pigs or the pigs are walking them, but either way is ok with me.

Three cats currently reside here, but only one showed up for the photo shoot. They are the heroes around here because all three have been awesome at catching mice and rats this winter!

Sadie was elated to get rabbits again to show at the county show
Ivey and Shane tended these animals in a little different way than the others....they just had to tend to the skinning and processing after shooting them!

Our game warden is too cool. He took Shane and Ivey each hunting and had as much fun as
          they did.
Ivey's favorite part, she said, is the skinning and getting the backstrap out. I told her Uncle Monte worked at the local processing plant after school when he was in high school during hunting season and did a lot of skinning. She is interested. :)
Helping Daddy on a windy day. Everyone's favorite thing to do.

Even got in on doctoring with Morgan a little. Pretty fun"date"!

I was on a horse with a phone, so just a few snapshots...excuse me for cutting Ivey's horse's head off. :) I was just taken by her wearing Shane's old leggings that are now too small for him. Good thing Daddy has a leather shop.....hard to keep them in leggings! :) I absolutely LOVE the look on her face in the second picture. Just having a good day. She and I were on the road in front of the yearlings as we moved them to a different pasture. Shane brought the cattle up, Daddy was getting gates set, and Sadie was bringing the truck and trailer up behind Shane. That might be why Ivey looks concerned in the first picture. And she might have had good reason to be...but when Morgan asked Sadie, "Can you drive this truck?" she responded so positively that he let her try. :) She did great. It wasn't far and it sure wasn't fast. But Ivey was relieved when the truck was parked. Kinda funny.

Daddy even took the crew to eat...... that's how we have a good time in the country. :)

Also been enjoying more board games over our break - can't get enough.

I would rather play and lose a game than not play a game. Shane said he couldn't understand that. So it is a good thing he won this particular game! :)

Bessie and Marie - HA! Great names, Shane-O! Then along come the pigs -- more great names! Wonder if you named that deer while you skinned it? :) just kidding. Ms. Ivey - you like skinning deer? You and Amy should get together. I'll drink my tea while you two go at it, I've NEVER skinned a deer and thought "oh, I think it'd be fun to work at a locker plant after school!" :) It's more like "Oh, I hope Callie doesn't kill her deer - we skinned Amy's this year and that's plenty for this Mama!":)
Sadie B - hope your rabbits are thriving too. Good pick of animal -- I don't see you having to walk the rabbits all around that huge round pen! :) And GREAT job driving that truck too! :)
Games....ahhhhh -- need another suggestion sometime? "Deer in the headlights" is a new fun favorite around here.
Love you all - thanks for the pics. Oh, cool cat too
