Shots of the Shoot

A few days after Thanksgiving, when the 3 pies were all eaten and Ivey announced "Pumpkin pie isn't quite as good the third morning you eat it", we decided it was time to get OUT of the house, AWAY from the last of the stuffing and gravy, and move around. :) We've been wanting to get Ivey and Sadie started on using a scope, and we all love to target shoot, so off we went. (I am sorry I don't have Thanksgiving pictures. We did have an extra special day and I hope you all did too.)
First order of business....prepare the arsenal!
Get your ear protection! Notice who grabbed hers first,
to be sure to get the BLUE ones!
Grab your weapon of choice! Shane has a weak spot
for his Great Grandpa's .22 six shooter that Daddy
                                          tooled a holster for.
Down to business. What is she shooting at, anyway?
Balloons! Mel and Justin's idea and a huge hit every time.
                                         No pun intended.
You decide from her expression if she hit!
Meanwhile, Wyatt Earp is having a six shooter standoff
with the metal target. And when he had to reload,
here came the Smurf to shoot! She loves this little
Chipmunk .22 single shot that Morgan's Dad got for his
                                          kids when they were little.
I couldn't tell if she liked the loading best...
or the actual shooting. :) She did well with the scope
but seemed to gravitate back to the Chipmunk.
Trying another .22 pistol, with Great Grandpa's on his hip.
And wearing a Tom and Jerry tshirt. I told him he was
sending mixed signals. 2 firearms makes me think he's
serious. The tshirt says he's not. I'm confused. :)
Mostly I shot the camera, but when I joined in the
actual shooting, Morgan snuck up and took a few pictures.

Then, time to reload the balloon tree!
And run back to get to the fun part!!
By now, Ivey was confident with the scope. As soon as
I decided to try to shoot the balloons, she whispered,
"Which one are you shooting, Mama?"
"The pink one on the left," I replied. And before I could pull
the trigger....BAM! I watched it pop through my scope and heard
a giggle beside me at the same time.
                                          Then the war was on!!
But I don't think Ivey was having a very good time
holding her own with the contest. What do you think?
Shane had shot every gun we had, but kept going
back to the six shooter. I think he started imagining
himself as an old time gun slinger, judging from the
tough comments he started making to imaginary enemies.
But they weren't convinced....I think it was the
cartoon tshirt that tipped them off. :)
Daddy had been busy coaching, helping, reloading,
but toward the end he shot a little.
When all the balloons were little hanging bits of
plastic, Ivey finally moved over to the other target.
                                         Such fun for all!

fun (says Amy)
competitive (says Callie)
love the smurf's ear protection, the expressions Ivey wore, the balloon popped before Mama could even pull the trigger, the tough guy in the Tom & Jerry shirt, and the tooled holster!!
If we bring our own balloons, can we shoot with you when we come next time? We'd better get to practicing, I bet the southerners could beat us hands down right now!
Another great post - more, please!

What a fun post! Loved seeing all your pictures of your time "out and about" I laughed out loud about Ivey's comment about the pumpkin pie :) ha! I echo Mel ... loved all the details...Mac's shirt while shooting :) The little smurf holding her own and Ivey's expressions were all great! I loved her hitting the balloon right ahead of you - priceless! It's definitely going to get more competitive now!! :)

I had this flashback to Dad when I read about Morgan busy coaching, helping, reloading...and then shooting a little at the end. Sounds like Dad when we would go on family trips and go fishing :) I understand now why he would go downstream for a while to fish in peace! :)

I don't know which post I most enjoyed, but it sure is good to see you and your kidos back on here.
Love that they are learning good gun safety and shooting practices at an early age. Way to go!
