Sadie turned FIVE YEARS OLD!!!!
She REALLY partied. We opened gifts at home, had a tea party at Memop's with cake - a tea party that made all of us big girls swoon, I might add, and a birthday party with Uncle Ian. All those pictures are on Memop's camera...but you get the idea.
She's HAPPY to be five. School age. It takes all the fingers on one hand to show people how old she is now. Very noteworthy if you ask her. :)Sadie.... my Sadie.... quiet as a mouse in public, but when she's comfortable, she is nutso.... she will sing opera on a stepstool by a tepee in a totally "mixmatched" outfit. She is lots of fun.
Sadie.... who puts together great outfits. I am always sad when the kids become aware of what matches and what doesn't. Sadie is super casual about what she wears...anything will do. Polar opposite from the girl she shares a room with. The day she wore this outfit, she proudly showed it to me and I smiled and said "Grab a headband and we're ready to go!" Ivey said "But you need to change your socks" (with a very sisterly tone of voice). Sadie looked at her feet, clad happily in orange socks and pink plaid shoes and said "Why?" Ivey replied in a tone that was very know it all, "Because....they're ORANGE". I laughed inside, assured Sadie it was a great outfit, and off we went.
Sadie....who is a thoughtful, super sensitive sister and daughter. She looks for ways to make people's day better. She is such a fun companion to me during the day and I will miss that next year.
Sadie...who likely wouldn't notice if I didn't do her hair for 3 days
Sadie....who is the worse back seat driver we've ever ridden with, reminding us of the speed limit, oncoming cars, and stop signs. I wonder how she thinks we ever drove before she came along. :)Sadie who is super cautious, always thinks ahead and worries about possible problems.
A very serious person mixed with a bohemian child with wild abandon. Quite a package! Happy Birthday to You.....
On to other things...with winter here (is it? We can hardly tell by our weather!) Morgan has had more time in the evenings to do leatherwork. He built a pair of woolies for a good friend of his....

He came up with a new design for a knife case that is very cool.
And he built some leggings for Shane. Ivey can wear them too. They are a bit smaller than Morgan intended...or maybe Shane is a bit bigger than Morgan thought he was. :)
Speaking of Shane...he has a girlfriend. We've been watching this 2 year old this week and she is totally in love with Shane. He can't deny that he's flattered by the attention. :)
Ivey got to skip school to go work cattle with Morgan and the other cowboys. Funny how she was happy and smiley at 4:30 to go work cattle...it's a different deal waking her up at 6 to go to school! :)
She does love school...just not waking up and getting ready for school. :) Here's proof. She's smiling as she left last week for school - to go to UIL competition. There were 6 area schools competing in several different subjects. First graders can only compete in storytelling...and Ivey's eyes were huge when they announced she had won!! Way to go, Pink! :)
Here's one of all the kids that morning. Ivey wasn't as smiley. Shane had tugged a braid or something and she was having a hard time recovering for a picture. Sibling drama. Gotta love it. :)
Shane competed in spelling and storytelling. He got third in storytelling. They love UIL competition. I suspect because they go to a different school, eat in a cafeteria (our school doesn't have one), play in the gym when they're finished competing, and there is a concession stand! :)There's a peek of what's been going on at our house. All is well. Kids are getting older, Morgan is working cattle and turning beautiful things out in the leather shop, and I'm enjoying it and trying to document some of it since it is going by so fast. :)

Loved the update! The woolies are beautiful....too pretty to wear in the dust and dirt. Do I know the person they are for?
What a great and newsy post Michelle! Although I am up on what most of the news is, it is just great to see it documented with pictures and apt descriptions and commentary. We loved all of it!
Love the pics of Sadie in that little brown hat. Scout and I need one. Did you make it? I also won storytelling in first grade. Such a fun event. Way to go Ivy. Shane looks so handsome in his tie. You have a great family!!

Beautiful pictures Michelle! I love seeing your kiddos ever from afar. :)
Thanks! We love catching up with your sweet family! :-)
Welcome back! And "someone" can't count very well b/c Oct. 15 to Dec. 12 is TWO months! I'd about given up, but now I can 'take you along' when we move back to CA. Yep, sad to say we're leaving TX after just 1.5 years. It's been a good & valuable experience & I'm glad we got to meet/see your family a few times. Sadie's at such a sweet, fun age and really knows how to celebrate a birthday! Shane & Ivy are growing up fast & Shane still reminds me so much of my youngest grandson, Bronson.
Good days to you in 2011 and keep the blogs rolling!
Decided to sneak a peek at your blog and pictures. How those kids have grown and I can see some mischief in some eyes. Grin. Go for it kids and keep Mom busy.
Love you and miss you
Lala and Gary
It must be time for another update :) I loved reading this post and 'catching up' with what you guys are up to. I do feel dated though...can't hardly believe how much your kiddos have grown since I last saw them!
Just found this blog off of Kristen's. We got so excited! Can't wait to see you all again (hopefully this weekend!), and get to know you all better!!
