Clip the pigs! Bathe them again - time to take 'em to town!
| Albert! Why did you get dirty after I had you cleaned up! Git back in here for another bath! |
| That's better! |
| Oh, I don't know..... |
| I'm a little worried this one isn't as heavy as he should be.....but too late now...time to go! |
| Come on rabbits, time to see if all the weighing and careful feeding is going to pay off. |
| Lots of kids in the class.... |
| It's intense. Get the bunnies situated, girls! |
| Hide and Seek? Keeping the rabbits from seeing the competition? Or just keeping them calm? |
| Sizing up the competition |
| "You think your rabbits will win? Really?" |
| "Puh-lease. No way. Mine are, like, way better." |
| "Humph!...we'll see!" |
Just kidding. Sadie was nervous, sweet, and is not super competitive. The pictures just were too funny to pass up captioning. The judge moved them all around and at the end, announced that Sadie got first place with her pen of rabbits. Love her smile!
| Next was the singles show. Lillie, Landon, and Sadie all together! |
Meanwhile, behind the showbarn, lots of prep work was being done for the
heifer show. Shane can now add "blow drying a heifer" to his resume. I
wonder if that will be a practical, helpful skill. :)
| One last bath for Winston (Churchill) and Albert (Einstein) |
| Big morale booster for Uncle Will and Sarah to come for the fun! |
| Pig is clean, boy is clean....time to show! |
| Winker coming out to show.... |
| Then the heifer show. Shane's first time to show cattle and he loved it. |
| They each got to sell an animal in the sale - fun! |
| Anyone think Shane is starting to look a little like my side of the family? This evening I was struck by it! | | |
| |
The stockshow is about getting an animal ready and competing with it, but when you step back and look at it, it is about so much more. It is about the community supporting the young people in the community....
| It's about silliness between showing... |
It's about friends!
It's about family. And big belt buckles, evidently.
And it's about learning from a generation who is taking the time to invest in the young ones.

Oh Shell....what an awesome post!! Love all the Stockshow pictures and the captions make it even better. I have to say I chuckled all the way through the Sadie and rabbit pictures - hahaha :) What a great experience and I'm so glad you captured so much of it in pictures! Thanks for sharing!!
Oops! Hey grammar queen, I just realized a made a mistake after I published my last comment. "Stockshow pictures and the captions make THEM even better" ... whew! I think you were probably about to get your red pen ;) love you!
LOVE the stockshow pictures!
You can just tell how good that is for them.
Could NOT quit laughing at the captions under Sadie's and her perfectly matching expressions.
NO WAY she wasn't thinking all those things, seeing those pictures!! Well, if it was someone besides Sades, I'd have to say that.
Great post--we've been looking forward to it.
Memop and Opum
ps. In answer to your question, I can see it in that picture of Shane...some of our side of the family peeking through. There's something in his smile in this certain picture that reminds me of Mom....what do you think?
Wish I lived closer, as it would have been so much fun to see the kids show their animals. I did the showmanship one year, which meant showing animals in every category. So I know from experience how hard it is to show pigs. My hat is off to the kids. So proud of you all.
Love ya Bunches!
