Seems like yesterday I was posting with excitement that it was summertime - now we're trying to make each day count, knowing that we have less than a week of summer left before school starts back up. So, the picture above is what has been one of my favorite views all summer - this is the first summer all the kids were on bikes - no stroller! The other morning I was making pancakes, the kids were setting the table, and Morgan had gone to feed horses. He came back in and said we needed to come out RIGHT NOW and see what had been trying to get in the chicken house.
Lucky for the chickens that he didn't! The kids were totally impressed with the bobcat - he was small, but very pretty.Yesterday I watched the kids and smiled as I watched how carefree they were. Then I sensed the excitement building as they ran in to get buckets, Shane had fewer clothes on, and then they told me why. They had found....and caught....
A big toad deep in a mudhole! Shane had to crawl down in the hole to retrieve the toad. I doubt the toad was too tickled, but the kids sure were proud of their catch!
After showing us, they took it back and built what they thought was the perfect toad habitat. They were sure the toad would feel like a king in it, but he hopped out of it, back into his deep mudhole. They took the rejection well, and now just go check on him several times a day.
I thought "Next Monday they'll be back to a strict schedule....I'm glad they can spend hours this week doing things like catching toads and wading." :)
I hope there is great adventure at your house this week.
