We've been in a birthday frenzy this week and now have a 6 year old and an 8 year old in our house. We had plenty of frosting and sprinkles to make it a special day for them - that's how they measure it, you know. :)
I let the kids make their own cupcakes to take to their classes. Well, I made them and they helped frost them and then I turned them loose on decorating them. Here are Ivey's...Sadie helped her with hers. They were so cute - the kids at school loved them.

Here is Miss Six..... She and Sadie dressed in their princess dresses while they set the table. Ivey picked my nicest table cloth and nicest dishes and said "Even if we're eating hot dogs we can use our nice dishes". :) Then they disappeared and came back in nice dresses because the princess dresses were too itchy. :)

Ivey has been badly wanting a doll whose hair she could comb...

and was elated to get one....with two outfits!! Can you feel the intensity in that hug?! :)

Here was one of the sweetest moments and I barely even saw it happen. After they had opened their gifts, Sadie disappeared for a little while and when she came back she quietly gave Ivey a present she had "made" and stashed away a week or so ago. It was so sweet to watch her quietly and shyly give it to her, and to see Ivey be so sweet about receiving it. So sweet, even if the things in the bag were things they already had, it made it special that Sadie made a present out of them. Reminded me of the year we had a birthday party for Frank and Ivey saw him opening presents and disappeared in the house. When I went looking for her she was madly coloring a pretty picture to give him - remember that, Jess?
She went to bed, very worn out from the day, but very happy about being 6. :)
Now, Shane's turn.... he frosted and decorated all 20 of his cupcakes. He did them the way every kid wishes their mom would do them, I think. He did not believe me that less was more! :) They were really cute and believe me, his class went wild when they saw these candy laden, frosting coated cupcakes! :)

Morgan gave Shane a chipmunk .22 rifle that was his first gun when he was a boy. Actually, we wrapped some .22 shells and he got so excited about them it was hilarious. He didn't realize that meant we got him a gun though, so he was just happy with the bullets! I said "Maybe you'll get a .22 next year", thinking he would catch on that we were messing with him. He just said "Yeah, maybe!" Morgan quietly left the room, got the gun, and stood in the doorway with it until Shane saw him. Shane was so excited and amazed when he put 2 and 2 together that it nearly choked me up. :) I took this picture as he was walking over to Morgan to see it closer. Kind of blurry but I love his expression.
Then we moved on to the ice cream. They had cupcakes at school and we're going to Opum and Memop's this coming weekend and will have a little party since they didn't get to be here, so we opted to do their cakes then instead. So, we had ice cream with lots of topping choices.
Most importantly, whipped cream out of a can, just for entertainment. :)

I think this is exactly what Shane was hoping would happen.

I think he's thinking that it is great to be eight! :)

I need to do another post about this gift, but here's what he looked like at the same time Ivey was fast asleep. Dad and Karen sent a new age Rubik's cube. I'm not sure it's been out of his hands since he opened it, except to eat and bathe! He finally solved it, which was an amazing feat. Of course I am amazed because the only way I was ever able to solve Aunt Linda's Rubik's cubes as a child was to change the stickers! Not my thing....so I was impressed with his dedication to it!
There are more pictures but I'll let these do for now. I also have a great story about Shane's most recent encounter with the tooth fairy that you'll love.

Those are the most stupendously beautiful cupcakes!!
Can't wait to have another party here!
I wanted to tell the story of answering the phone the night before Shane's birthday and it was Shane on the phone. He said "Memop, I just wanted to call you while I'm still seven."
