The cast is off!

Look! No cast!! Yesterday morning the first words out of Sadie's mouth were "Today I get my cast off!" So off we went to the doctor, first thing in the morning... here she is before the nurse came in. They x-rayed it and said it had healed beautifully. Hooray!
She wanted to be on my lap while they cut it off, so Shane took pictures. That in itself was entertaining. :) Here we are...most of us anyway.
The nurse had explained it all so well before she started, that Sadie didn't flinch or get tense at all when she started cutting the cast even though the saw was loud and scary sounding.
The cutting was slow... the photographer got a bit distracted, and here are the high points of the room according to a 7 year old.... speed racer,
a burro on the wall, and
stickers! Of which they each got a few when we left. There was a picture of the tv that I didn't post - but it made me laugh that Shane took a picture of it.
Oh yes, back to business. Next the nurse pried the cast apart, after cutting a line on top and another on the bottom.
Then she cut the soft gauze that was under the cast with scissors - none of this made Sadie nervous because the nurse. She was so great with Sadie.
The cast is OFF! Hooray!!
As promised, Sadie got a super long bubble bath as soon as we got home, to make up for 5 1/2 weeks of having to keep the cast dry, which meant short baths with her arm covered in a bag. Not exactly relaxing and leisurely!
Notice though, that the wrist is still very crooked. I admit this gave me quite a start when I saw it, it still looks broken! They assured me this is expected and normal, and will straighten over the next few months as the bone grows.
So...back to life without a cast. Sadie came to breakfast this morning saying "My arms are BOTH light!" She had been calling her left arm her heavy arm when it was casted. Now she's happy to be adjusting to no cast! :)

That's great! I remember getting a cast cut off of my leg one time....and little girl came out to the waiting room where my Dad was waiting....her eyes were huge and she said, "They are cutting someone's leg off in there!"
Okay....now you know I am one of those lurkers who checks your blog occasionally!

WOW. I must admit that the whole crooked wrist thing kind of made my stomach a little "warbley". I didn't know that about broken bones! Crazy!

Fun picture taking, Shane-o-mac! I like to see what interests you! :)
