HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

We have a tradition in our house. Every January first, we write a resolution. No one else sees it. We roll them up, tie them, then put them in a jar. The next year, we read them as a family to see how we did. Then we write another. Sometimes we accomplish what we intended. Sometimes we forget what we wrote. :)

As I have been thinking about what I will resolve to do this year, the possibilities are endless! I got tickled about the sheer magnitude of things I would like to change and how optimistic I seem to feel as a new year begins. And how unrealistic my new year zeal can be. So I wrote this poem to illustrate the silliness of it. I went a little overboard on being silly, really. :) I didn't intend to put it on the blog, but Morgan says I have to. :)

Resolutions! Resolutions!
So much to resolve.
New things to learn,
Old problems to solve.
January first is such a clean slate,
A chance to change things I really do hate.
A short list should do,
Now let me begin:
I will exercise daily,
And show discipline.
Five days a week,
Into sweatpants I'll wriggle,
I will learn to love sweating,
to combat the jiggle.
I'll keep my house perfect,
not a thing out of place.
No more last minute rushing,
I will never run late.
I'll cook more nutritious meals,
try new recipes weekly.
Drink green smoothies daily,
Nix sugar - no cheating.
I will learn to make soap,
Improve knitting skills.
I will embroider a project,
And finish a quilt.
I will journal daily,
My ponderings record,
My hopes, fears, experiences
will be tidily stored.
I'll get organized,
Dresser drawers, pictures, desk.
Morgan will never have cause
to say the house is a wreck.
I will be more compassionate,
thoughtful and kind,
Learn to hold tongue and judgment
More of the time.
I will be more patient,
My voice will not raise,
Even with my kids seem to
bicker for days.
When I write down all the things
I am hoping to change
The questions arises,
What stays the same?
My list isn't half done,
And I don't mean to whine....but
I hope 2014
has twice as much time!

Happy New Year!!! I think I will stick to choosing one resolution....what do you resolve? Leave a comment with your resolution! :)

Goals are made,
confessions too
We get the picture
yes we do.
Queen of the castle
you're doing well
to proclaim such ambitions
is more than swell.
For me, your twin,
I'll have to say.
You go girl!
I'm on my way
to find some chocolate,
and bigger sweats
2014 will be
the best year yet!!

HA!

Seriously, the root of my resolutions is this: to finish what I begin. Don't quit when it gets hard, or mundane.

To search out the questions to all of life's answers and lower my expectations.

Great poem, Mel! Though you are by far the more disciplined twin! Our poems should be swapped....they would be more appropriate! :)

And Justin, you have had the same resolution for several years....how much lower can your expectations get? :)

Loved both of your comments. :)

Seem to have not yet pondered my resolution for 2014......

Maybe I"ll remember to post it later?

Yay, you posted several new blogs!
So fun to see what you have been up to. Love the resolutions. I think I will stick with just trying to do better at keeping in touch with loved ones. :)
