For a September post, we'll start out with our in house nerds. It is homecoming week and today was Nerd Day. As the kids told me all about everyone's outfits, I chuckled to myself at how confident all of us parents were at dressing our kids like nerds. As if we had some personal experience in that area when we were in school or something. :)
A friend of ours brought her road bike out when she came to visit. She did 27 miles and it looked like she had gone 2. I would have been a limp noodle! Shane was so impressed that the next day she took him for a little ride. About 3.5 miles. He LOVED it - but he was feeling it when he got back too! :)
Speaking of Shane, his newest and proudest achievement as of late is....
playing his armpits. I can hardly bring myself to tell him it is anything less than cool when I look back in the car and his eyes are twinkling as he plays in tempo with whatever music is playing. The girls are so impressed. Morgan and I have seen Sadie trying to do it several times when she thinks we aren't looking. I remember something similar with Wade and Amy last year, right Mel?
Morgan has been super busy with weaning and shipping calves this time of year. He was home in time for supper the other night so I had him grill. He loves to grill because he set up a washer pit right by the grill, so he practices or plays whoever is here while he is grilling. Yes, most times our food is a bit charred because of the washer pit distraction, but we all like it that way. :)
All is well as we head into October. We're back in the groove of school, though I miss having the kids here during the day. Here's a story that came from a school assignment. This proves that, as far as my kids are concerned, my identity is totally wrapped up in being a Mama. And that's okay with me.
Shane had an assignment where he was supposed to fill out facts about his family. After awhile he looked at me with a sweet and almost pained expression. The he says "Mama, is there anything interesting about you?" I glanced at his paper and he had filled out things about Daddy and the others, but was sure struggling with Mama. What do you say about the lady who cooks, cleans, and nags about manners? :) Luckily I have done a few "cool" things in my distant past that fit the bill. Love that humble pie. :) I still laugh about it every time I think of it, so it is getting passed on. For all you other mothers who can relate. :)

Great pictures and goings-on! Very nostalgic too, with the armpit-playing and the bit about Mama being the every-day predictable one! BUT--she's also the go-to one, right?! Love your little nerds!
Your kids nerd up very well! Cute picture. And wonderful Mama story. It speaks to a mothers' devotion and dependability when her family can so totally take her for granted, not that it does much for our self esteem or anything ;-) But that's what comes with the motherhood territory. Will we see you at GT next month? Our daughter from the CA staff will be there for both =))
Love your new pics & stories! Thx for sharing!
Loved catching up with you guys, and reading your post. :)
I can completely relate to your mom story. I loved that you shared it Michelle.
