Summer Surprise!

Dad and Karen called on a Thursday and said they could come the next Monday to stay a week with us! We had a wonderful time with them and an added bonus was that Alisa came too! The only sad thing about the trip (other than that they had to leave at all *smile*) was that we took a bunch of pictures on Karen's camera and when we tried to put them on my computer, my computer somehow erased her card and didn't load my pictures. So, here are my few pictures from the trip. Alisa got some, I may see if I can upload those for the blog too. Anyway...here are a few good ones.
Dad promised the kids an airplane ride. He used to trick us with this one when we were young too. :) It worked best on Shane. Mostly Ivey was relieved it wasn't on a real plave. She nervously asked me if Grandpa knew how to fly an airplane. :) If you aren't familiar with this trick, Dad and Morgan lifted the board slowly while the kid on the board held onto my shoulders. I slowly dropped to my knees, so they felt they were getting really high when really they were a few inches off the ground. Then Alisa held a book above their head and when they bumped it we said "Oh! jump off, the plane is too high" or something like that. So they felt like they had hit the ceiling of the porch and were jumping a long way - the sensation of it is pretty wild, when your brain in expecting to jump a long ways and you only have a two inch drop.
Jessica and I had cut out a patchwork curtain for my kitchen window when she was here last month. I mentioned it to Karen and one afternoon she asked if I would like her to sew it together. I was GLAD to have it put together so professionally from start to finish! :) It looks so pretty in the kitchen and everytime I look at it I think about two special afternoons - one with Jessica when we planned it and cut it, and one with Karen while I ironed the pieces and she sewed it together. I told them they need to meet one another, they have done a sewing project together now! :)
Lots of snuggles and giggles. I don't have any pictures of Alisa in my pictures, which I am not happy about! :) Probably because the kids always had her off in their rooms or outside doing various things.
Dad made, by grandkids' requests, pancakes for breakfast. Shane was helping him and said "I need to get this recipe!" So here was when he was writing it down and Dad was telling it to him.
Dad replaced the door that came into our leather room. It was a big heavy door with no window before. One with a cut out hole for a dog door that we had covered with plywood when we moved here, and it had a rat trap mounted on the wall with a pencil on a string next to it so anyone who stopped by could leave a message. Perhaps quite handy for country folks with a dog, but it wasn't exactly classy. :) We found a door in an abandoned house that has windows and is very pretty. It is a huge improvement! You can see that Dad had a helper too.
Dad and Morgan played guitar some too - and somehow Dad ended up in the girls' room one evening doing a "Bessie teh Heifer" sing a long. :)

It was a wonderful week - we hope it will be an annual trip!!

Oh, my...I have *several* comments for this post...

1. WHY is Karen leading Sadie down the MIDDLE of the road in the first picture?!?!?!? Hasn't anyone taught ya'll better than that!?! *laugh*

2. I love, love, LOVE the picture of Karen sewing and of Ms. Sadie just standing close by her side and observing. I'm sure that there was a lot more action (and probably chatter!) than what the picture implies, but I sure do LOVE that moment! :)

3. PS - Let's see a picture of that curtain!!! :o)

4. What on EARTH happened to Ivey's face (in the picture of Grandpa & the kiddos, I noticed her scraps on her face & arms)?

5. The girls' room looks cute! It's fun to think of them having their own beds now (didn't they use to share one (when I came to visit)? what happened to the bunk bed?). Does Shane have his own bedroom now?

6. Grandpa sure had a cute helper! :) I like how she's nestled in by his side.
